Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend  Next Entry
The past week or so has been pretty busy. With my job, working out, and socializing, I haven't had that much downtime. But, it looks like i might have a bit more of that coming to me in the next couple of days. Last night I was planning on going out to a club in Ft.Lauderdale. I had met some new, interesting people online and they invited me to check out the place. It sounded pretty cool and I was really looking forward to it. I got all dressed up and headed out onto the road; I didn't make it to the club.

Some idiot that was pulled onto the shoulder of the highway tried to merge back into traffic without looking behind him or getting up to speed first. Now, since he was going about 10 miles per hour, and the speed limit was 70, this caused a bit of a problem. The person he swerved in front of had to slam on their breaks, and I had to do the same. But my car didn't stop before slamming into the car in front of me. Yeah, looks like Warspite now has some battle scars. And by scars I mean the front-end is completely crushed. It looks like I got off pretty lightly myself. My right wrist got burned and cut-up a bit by the airbag, my chest got bruised by the seat-belt/airbag, and I got a little bump on the head, but otherwise I seem to be fine. With some luck I should be good as new in a few days.

I did manage get one stroke of luck already though. You see, that first driver was pulled over because he had been in a prior accident! The cop who responded to that one was still there, and he witnessed the whole incident, which is great for me. I know that I didn't do anything wrong, there was nothing else I could have done besides break as hard as I could. If I had tried to change lanes I probably would have hit someone else, or they would have hit me. So, I just had to ride it out. The cop put 100% of the blame for the accident on the first guy, and issued him a ticket as well. So, I should be in the clear insurance wise.

Hopefully everything will work out in the end.

Holy crap! That's horrible! I'm so glad you're okay :) It's great that you had a police witness - the worst thing in an accident is to feel like you're under suspicion for something you didn't do.

I just hope that his testimony will exonerate me fully. I really, really don't need another bill to pay right now. I'm doing ok ; i went to a clinic and they checked me out and i don't have anything worse than a burn and a bruised ribcage. Though, they did give me a tetanus shot, and now my left arm is aching!

Tetanus shots *suck*. I had to get one a few weeks ago so that my new school would let me in... shame they don't know about the rabies...

I hear airbags can sting like that. I'm glad you're okay!

I don't know if it's a state thing, but at least in MD if you rear-end someone, it's always your fault for being too close behind them. The first guy certainly caused the accident for the second guy, but you might have caused the accident between second guy and you (insurance-wise). Insurance works differently everywhere, though, so I hope they don't get you for anything.

Jesus! I'm glad you're ok though Alex, that fucking sucks.

Yeah, Florida has that same policy where if you rear-end someone you're responsible... though I would hope that in this case you could get out of that, especially with a cop as a witness.

By the way, I would definitely get checked out by a doctor or chiropractor ASAP, just to take care of any problems that may pop up in the long term. I know when Maggie got into a small accident a few years back, she didn't develop any problems with her back until about a year later, and by that point it was too late to get insurance to pay.

In Florida if a cop didn't see anything the car in rear must have done something wrong, but since the cop did see the whole thing and issued the first driver the citation you could be ok insurance wise, unless your company is a bunch of ass hats. It's good to hear you made it out with only minor injuries, but still keep an eye on your neck since whip-lass takes a few days to set in. Well let me know if you feel better this week, since I'm in town till Sunday and wanted to see if you would be interest in hanging out.

Yeah, we should get together sometime. I know I will be busy tomorrow (Tuesday) night, but let me know when you are free and we can get together for a bit before you head off.

yeah, i think i will count my blessings, though I may hold off until I see who ends up having to pay for the whole ordeal. Maybe I will at least get a cool scar out of the whole thing.
